About the Potter

Jen working on the wheel

Hi, I’m Jen. I established The Village Pottery in 2005. My dream was to set up a space where I had a studio, shop and café. I wanted people to be able to come in and use my work whilst watching and learning how pottery is made. We live in such an instant society that we sometimes lose sight of how much love, care and time goes into hand-crafted items.

It was during my Ceramic BA(Hons) in Cardiff that I began to make forms on the potter’s wheel. I instantly fell in love with the process. I became very interested in the debate of whether functional items are seen as art. I believe that handmade objects have a soul, they tell a story, and these functional, yet aesthetically pleasing pieces, can enlighten everyday actions.

My business has developed over the years to include teaching small and large groups, baby feet imprinting, wedding lists, personalised commissions and most recently designing bespoke tableware for Michelin star restaurants. However what brings me most joy remains the same... which is, that my pottery is bringing joy and happiness to the lives of people around the world everyday.

Have you ever tried to throw a pot on the wheel? You can follow the process from start to finish, ending up with a personal memento to take home. Turn a piece of wet clay into a smooth functioning pot. Anything from a bowl to a plate can be created and decorated by yourself.

Once your creations have dried Jen will then fire them in the kiln and you will pick it up a few weeks later, ready to show your work to the world, or give it as a gift.

It's lots of fun and all ages and abilities can give it a go.

If you prefer to simply have fun at throwing the pot on the wheel without firing it, Jen offers 30 minutes introductory sessions. Gift Certificates are available.

Large groups are welcome at Jen’s studio in Easton-in-Gordano, just 10 minutes from Clifton. Hen parties and kids parties welcome. Get out of the office and tune into your creative side with team building office pottery parties. It’s a lot of fun and very therapeutic.
